Albertsons and Chevron link grocery and fuel rewards

Shoppers can link their Albertsons and Chevron Texaco Rewards accounts and combine grocery-earned rewards for up to $1.50 off per gallon in most markets.

Albertsons and Chevron now let shoppers combine fuel rewards from both loyalty programs. Members who link their Albertsons and Chevron Texaco Rewards accounts can apply both kinds of rewards to one purchase at participating Chevron and Texaco stations.

Outside California and Hawaii, Albertsons members can save up to $1 per gallon with grocery-earned points, plus up to 50 cents per gallon through Chevron’s program, for up to $1.50 per gallon in total. In California and Hawaii the grocery discount is capped at 20 cents, for up to 70 cents in total. Every 100 Albertsons points are worth 10 cents off per gallon, on up to 25 gallons per transaction.

The link builds on a relationship that started in 2012. Rewards from Chevron’s program cannot be used at Safeway fuel stations, and gas rewards are not available in the Jewel-Osco market area.

For partnership programs, the lesson is that combining two currencies at the pump makes each program’s points more useful without either brand changing its earn rules.
